Status - 11.09.2020 | Englischhausen courses in times of the corona pandemic

Like so many companies, we have also been affected by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic over the past few months.  But after a forced shutdown in the spring, we have been delighted to have been welcoming participants back to Englischhausen since June.

The feedback from all participants has been consistently good.  If anything, it seems t
he enjoyment and rewards of participation have been intensified, possibly because of the lockdown period, in which many people had limited social interaction and were forced to put their lives in hold.

And whilst there have been some changes to the Englischhausen experience - above all, the introduction of strict hygiene standards relating to mask-wearing and social distancing - in essence, the programme remains the same, and definitely as rewarding as ever!  The same basic rule of thumb applies as always: if you like conversation, meeting people and learning about other cultures, then you are probably a person who would thrive in an Englischhausen environment!

Unfortunately, for now, thousands of members of the Englischhausen family around the globe are unable to travel to Germany and visit us, as they may have liked and even planned to.  We are desperately looking forward to the day when we can greet old friends from distant shores and once again truly open up our English villages to the English-speaking world.  Until then, we wish all of our volunteer well, and send all of our very best wishes.

Volunteering Opportunities in Autumn / Winter 2020/21
But the restrictions on travel are not quite affecting everyone.  Volunteers have still been coming to our programmes from abroad in recent months - from places like the UK, Ireland and France.  Travel remains for many, for the moment, still possible.  But of course things can change, and that's something our volunteers (and we) are constantly monitoring to make sure that informed judgements and decisions are possible.  If you are interested, and, as far as you know, are able to come and join one of our 6-day programmes in Germany, then do get in touch, and we'd be delighted to explore the possibility with you.

Are you in Germany?
If you are a native English-speaker in Germany, and may have some time on your hands in the coming months, as well as a desire to take part in something fun and interesting, then we would really like to hear from you.  Please read through these pages and other online sources about the experience, so that you know what you'd be signing up for - and do please bear in mind that this is a volunteer programme, not paid teaching work.

Hygiene and safety measures
Due to the ongoing uncertainty as to how the situation will develop in the next few months, as well as due to the different regulations on protective measures in different countries and federal states, we have decided to keep our hygiene concept as consistent as possible (within the framework of the latest official regulations or the scientific consensus). This means that our protective measures are in principle based on the regulations of the currently strictest or most cautious federal state in Germany, for example with regards to regulations on mask-wearing and social distancing.

In addition to the safety of our participants, we place a lot of value on transparency, consistency and clarity.  Our staff is promoting an atmosphere of "continuous feedback" at the programmes to ensure the well-being and comfort of our guests.  We noticed quickly that every person has different experiences and expectations with regard to hygiene standards, so we have identified a need to actively seek out resolve any feelings of discomfort or issues that may arise.

The full current calendar is now available at the website of our partner company Diverbo at www.diverbo.com
