What is Englischhausen? It is a six-day residential English course that takes place in Southern Germany. The model sees between 20 and 25 students living alongside an equal number of native English-speaking professional people, from various countries and backgrounds. The idea is to create a 100% English-speaking environment, where students are exposed to many different native accents and have a chance to practise their English in real-life situations. Is this a new type of course? In Germany, yes! Here, it's one of a kind, but our equivalent course in Spain, Pueblo Ingles, has had over 20,000 visitors since its launch in 2001. Englischhausen was launched in Germany in 2011.
For whom is the course designed? Many English language students had reported that traditional classroom methods were not giving them adequate preparation to deal with the practical application of English in real life situations, especially in the work place. Despite hour of work, they still struggled to understand different accents and communicate themselves confidently and effectively. Our course was designed to remedy these common issues.
What is the difference between this course and those offered in the UK or North America? Nowhere else is one guaranteed such exposure to conversational English. Our students are accompanied by 20+ native English-speakers who are ready to converse intensively for six days, from 8am in the morning to 11pm at night. We do not offer just one style of English, but rather 11+ different accents, on every course, from people with diverse cultural and professional backgrounds. Throughout the week together, you will discuss countless topics and learn about the culture and language habits of the various 'anglo' countries represented.
What are the advantages of the course? - Comprehension: students learn to understand people who don't simplify their speech as teachers do; - Communication: students learn to think in English instead of relying on mental translations; - Confidence in speaking: the confidence one feels in an English interaction is directly affected by one's ability to understand).
What type of teachers attend the course? Our course has no teachers. Trained teachers tend, over time, to adapt their speech to help students understand; they enunciate words more clearly, and often use simplified vocabulary and constructions. We only invite native speakers of English with lots of life experience but no teaching experience. Students are forced to tune in to real English, and to develop real confidence through improved understanding.
What is the price of the course? The price of €1,695, includes bus transfer to/fromMunich, 5 nights' full-board accommodation in a private, en-suite room, spa access, and at least 70 hours of English.
